I have to admit, the first time I saw what I refer to as the “baby tank”, I laughed. I was walking down Broadway passing 67th street and I saw a woman pushing a cart. I honestly thought she was selling some sort of refrigerated snack. As she approached, my curiosity of the cuisine got the better of me. I noticed that she was not selling a simple street vended delicacy at all- there was a massive baby taquito in there. This “stroller” was ridiculous. It had mud tires on it. They were huge! And there was this like, tent with plastic windows covering it. That kid was wrapped in nothing short of an adult sleeping bag folded over and over as the tortilla and then the baby must have been shoved in the middle with great strength. The best part was watching her try to get that thing down in to the subway. She had to commission the assistance of an innocent bystander- it was priceless. New York is not only rugged and perhaps brutal- but it is prepared.
